Echo of Small Things, a collaboration with ambient recording artist Robert Rich

David AgasiI’ve been directly influenced by the Surrealists as well as a palette of 20th Century master photographers who attempted to use photography as a way of rekindling their fascination with the world around them. Although we’ve currently been propelled into a precarious and often unharmonious relationship with technology, my intention is to create art which speaks to everyone, regardless of whether or not they own a computer, use a cellular phone or visit museums. I want it to be a pure experience made of simple materials which may be felt sensually.

My interest in music coincides with that of the visual arts. Given a choice, I would be very hard-pressed to choose one medium over the other. From an early age, I have been a radio DJ on various non-commercial stations in the U.S. and have continually provided visual material for musicians. Presently, I live in Tokyo, Japan.

I take an active advantage in roaming into the unknown for my inspiration. Sound art has been one area of interest since I was in my teens, and I’ve always been interested in the ways in which sound, words and images might be fused together. My recent photo/CD collaboration with ambient musician Robert Rich entitled Echo of Small Things, attempts to connect photography with sound in an engaging and organic mixture of feelings and moods which are indirectly tied to the unconscious.
